Saratoga Irish

Pete Rose had 4256 hits in his 24 year career as a baseball player. Peter thinks he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Pete thinks he was the greatest ball player of all time. The only thing I have in common with Pete Rose is that we both are banned from the Hall of Fame for betting on baseball. Pete is trying to worm his way around and sometimes admit to betting and other times denying. I will tell you straight out I bet on baseball. I guess that makes me a better person then Pete. Pete bet money, hard earned cash. I bet my self esteem, worth more then money. Last weekend the greatest revelry in sports (ESPN and Fox Sports not my opinion but I do agree with it) was renewed at Fenway Park in Boston. The division leading Red Sox and the last place Yankees were to meet for a three game series. Being a true Yankee fan I got on the phone with two other fans, Jeff Carney and Rob Przedwiecki. We bet the big three of Red Sox Fans in the Saratoga AOH, Brian Murphy, Chris Bergman and Dick Sheldon. Which ever team won the series the other fans would have to don the caps of the winning team at the AOH meeting on Thursday night. The Yankee'a won the first game on Friday night. The Sox came back strong on Saturday. It all came down to ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball game. In a great game, Alex Rodriquez hit a ninth inning home run to give the Yankees the lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Ortiz hit a ball that looked like it might make it but was just a bit short. The Sox got the tying run to first but that's where it stayed and the game ended in a Yankee win.

At the Thursday night AOH meeting at Tinny's bar in Lake Desolation, Chris Bergman and Dick Sheldon wore Yankee caps and had their pictures taken as Yankee fans. Brian, oh Brian, had prior commitments? I'm sure Mr. Murphy could have shown up late to take his medicine. At least he could have taken a picture and sent it to this blog for publication. Brian, Brian, Brian, I am so disappointed in you but then again you are a Red Sox fan and the self proclaimed "King of the Red Sox Nation". As soon as I get a photo it will be posted.

And now, with out further adue. Yankee Fans Chris Bergman and Dick Sheldon.

Congratulations to two good sports.
I know it would have been easier for both if the bet was only money.
