Saratoga Irish

all the leaves are brown
and the sky is grey
I've been for a walk
on a winter's day

I'd be safe and warm
if I was in L.A
California Dreamin'
on such a winter's day

Ok, it's not winter yet but if you look at the fans bundled up in Yankee Stadium the past two nights, to them it felt like winter. So at this point the Yankees have a two games to none lead over the Angels but don't count them out. The Angels are a good baseball team and this could go six or seven games.

I know it's been a while since I last updated this blog and I apologise for that I have been busy but not busy enough to write. So here are a few of the highlights from the past few months.

In July we attended the NYS AOH Convention. By we, I mean 10 members of the Saratoga AOH. The convention was held in Albany and the usual good times were had by all. My packet that included three meals was split between three of us. Dick Nelson went to the Ice breaker and had a meal he is still talking about. Emmet Kelleher went to the Awards night for the steak dinner and I had prime rib at the banquet on Saturday night.

August proved to be busy for the boys from Saratoga. On August 5th we went to the track for Irish Day at the races. A beautiful sunny day for the members and their families. On August 8th we were given a tour of the Lexington Ave Armory in New York City. This is the home of the Fighting 69th.

At the end of the month I had my first trip to the new Yankee Stadium. Sean and Sara came up from Maryland and came to the game with Sara's parents. We got to meet Ron Blumberg, the first DH in baseball history and Oscar Gamble before the game. The Stadium is overwhelming and you can't see everything in one trip but if you do go, behind the left field foul pole is a stand that sells the best steak sandwiches in the world. $15 and worth every penny ( for god's sake it's $5 for a hot dog, $15 for prime rib is not too bad). The Yankees got beat but the trip was great anyway.

In September the Irish 2000 Music and Arts festival moved to Saratoga county and we maned the parking lots for the two day event. I kept my eye out but no Bill sightings. Hopefully the Festival will stay here and Bill, if you are reading this, I miss you.

Now it's October. The Division always have a day at the battlefield to place a wreath at the Timothy Murphy Monument. This year it was expanded to include a stop at the National Cemetery to honor the unknown soldier grave also. The elections for the new officers of the Division is in full swing. I am backing Brian Murphy for President, Brian is a friend and a great Hibernian and will do a terrific job.

So here are some photos from the summer. http://picasaweb.google.com/saratogairish/SummerRecap#
